Grand Strand Beach Renourishment To Begin Late 2025

Beach renourishment is coming to the Grand Strand in late 2025 with anticipated completion by mid-summer 2026.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers shared the updated timeline Thursday detailing plans for the federally-funded project that will help repair erosion caused by Hurricanes Ian and Debby in 2022 and 2024, respectively.

The beach renourishment will help protect life, property and wildlife along our 60 miles of coastline.

Beach renourishment will begin in North Myrtle Beach in December 2025, followed by the City of Myrtle Beach in February 2026. The final reach, covering Garden City and Surfside Beach, is expected to begin in April 2026.

In December 2024, the Charleston District awarded a contract to Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company to place two million cubic yards of material on Myrtle Beach, equivalent to 200,000 dump trucks, along 26 miles of coastline. The renourishment is funded entirely by the Corps of Engineers and will cost $72 million.

The corps provides an online tracker where people can see exactly which parts of the beach are being impacted by the project.
