LGS Class XLVI Raising Funds for Legacy Project with Barnabas Horse Foundation

Members of Leadership Grand Strand (LGS) Class 46 are coming together to advance critical improvements to Barnabas Horse Foundation, enhancing the nonprofit’s equine-assisted therapy facilities and increasing its capacity to serve the community.

The 32-member class selected Barnabas as its Legacy Project partner after assessing local needs and recognizing the significant impact the organization has on survivors of trauma, veterans, first responders and children. Barabas provides equine-assisted psychotherapy and learning services, offering a safe and supportive environment for individuals navigating emotional healing.

“Barnabas Horse Foundation’s work plays a meaningful role in the emotional recovery and well-being of individuals and families,” said Sue McKinney, founder and president of the foundation. “Having the hands-on assistance of LGS Class 46 to strengthen our facilities will allow us to continue offering a safe, therapeutic environment for years to come.”

LGS Class 46 will lead improvements in three key areas:

  1. Fencing for the Equine-Assisted Learning Facility: Installation of 580 feet of vinyl fencing to enhance safety, security and structure during therapy and learning programs.
  2. Memorial Garden & Outdoor Dedication Space: Creation of a peaceful, landscaped area with benches and shelter to provide clients a place for reflection, grounding and emotional comfort.
  3. Feed & Equipment Storage Enhancements: Construction of a covered, reinforced storage structure to protect feed, tools and farm equipment from weather exposure and improve operational reliability.

In order to make the improvements, the class is pleading with the community for donations to contribute the $60,000 needed to make the improvements.

“Leadership Grand Strand has always been about creating lasting impact, and this year’s Legacy Project is no exception,” said Shannon Furtick, LGS executive director. “By partnering with Barnabas Horse Foundation, we’re not only improving facilities but investing in the emotional well-being of our community. Every donation brings us closer to providing a safe, healing space for those who need it most, and we invite everyone to join us in making this vision a reality.”
