It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce (MBACC) and Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) announces the passing of Sandy Haines, director of group tour sales and beloved member of our tourism family. Sandy passed away peacefully after a lifetime of dedicated service to the Myrtle Beach community and the travel industry.
Haines was a cherished colleague and a tireless advocate for the Grand Strand. Over her nearly 34-year career with the Chamber and CVB, she was a driving force in bringing motorcoach and group travel to the area, working closely with local businesses personnel, tour operators and event planners to create memorable experiences for visitors. Her efforts were instrumental in supporting the region’s economy year-round, with the majority of group tours arriving during the shoulder and off seasons.
In November 2024, Sandy was recognized by the National Tour Association with the prestigious Certified Tour Professional (CTP) certification, reflecting her decades of experience and commitment to excellence. She also received the 2024 Spirit of TAP Award from the Travel Alliance Partners, among other recognitions throughout her career.
“We are heartbroken to lose Sandy, whose professionalism and warmth touched countless lives both inside and outside of the industry,” said Bob Harris, executive vice president of sales for Visit Myrtle Beach. “Sandy was more than a colleague—she was a friend, mentor and a passionate champion for the Myrtle Beach area. Her legacy will live on in the relationships she built and the economic vitality she helped sustain for our community.”
A memorial service will be held on June 7 at 4:30 p.m. at Socastee United Methodist Church, 5575 Dick Pond Road.
