Chamber Connects Business Leaders with Alan Wilson on Regional Priorities

Transportation, workforce needs, permitting and insurance were among the priorities discussed when Attorney General Alan Wilson’s campaign bus tour stopped at the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce on Oct. 26.

Grand Strand business leaders met with Wilson, U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz and Darline Graham, state Sen. Mike Reichenbach and Commissioner of Agriculture candidate Cody Simpson to discuss issues affecting local businesses and the regional economy.

Road improvements planned through RIDE 4 highlighted the substantial local investment in transportation. The discussion emphasized the need for state funding to complement local dollars and help address the region’s transportation needs. Advancing I-73 was also identified as a priority for improving regional access.

Chamber President Jimmy Gray raised the importance of H-2B visas and J-1 exchange programs to businesses that rely on seasonal workers. Affordable childcare was also discussed as essential to helping parents remain employed and businesses retain staff.

The conversation included ways to reduce administrative burdens on small businesses, including improving permitting processes. Clearer, more efficient requirements can help owners focus their time and resources on operating and growing their businesses.

Insurance affordability and availability were another key concern. Improving insurance conditions is the chamber’s top advocacy priority, reflecting the challenges businesses face in securing coverage and managing costs.

Chamber Advisory Board Chair Mark Lazarus also raised tourism funding and the importance of continued support for the region’s visitor economy.

The visit gave business leaders an opportunity to share their experiences and put regional needs directly before elected officials and candidates.

The chamber appreciates everyone who visited and contributed to the discussion. Connecting business voices with policymakers is central to its work to promote, protect and improve the Grand Strand business community.
